Starting in the 2016-2017 school year, EAMS has moved to a 70% Summative and 30% Formative grading policy. While this puts a majority of the grade on larger assignments, a lot of thought and discussion went into making the switch. There have been a number of questions about what this means for students. I can only tell you what it will look like in my classroom.
70% Summative will include but not be limited to:
Retake Policy
Students will be allowed to retake tests at the teacher's discretion. If a student scores poorly on a test, quiz or project (does not include Independent Reading which is a 6 week project) they will have one week to complete the following items and take the retake test.
1. All Formative assignments are turned in.
2. Retake form (see below) has been completed and signed by parent/guardian and student.
3. Student has diligently worked to study and/or ask for help where needed.
Exceptions preventing a student from being eligible to take the retake are rare but I reserve the right to make that decision. Parent/Guardian will be notified in the event this happens.

- quizzes
- projects
- Independent Reading (20% of Summative)
- Graded practice work (for example: Odyssey lessons with quizzes)
- Group assignments
- Grammar Flips
